Choosing Between a Shed and Summerhouse

Choosing between a garden shed and a summerhouse largely depends on how you plan to use the space. Sheds are primarily used for storage and functional purposes, offering a secure, weatherproof environment for tools, gardening equipment, or outdoor items. A small summer house, on the other hand, is designed for enjoyment, relaxation, or additional living space. With larger windows to bring in natural light and a more decorative design, summer houses are ideal for those who want a space for entertaining guests, to unwind, or use as a garden office or hobby room.

Here at BTL Timber, we have been making sheds for over 25 years and we're very proud of the reputation we hold in the local area.  We only use the highest quality materials and we pride ourselves on our knowledge and customer service.  Jason, our shed builder has been making BTL sheds for over 20 years, and what he doesn't know about sheds isn't worth knowing!

We also work with a company called Phoenix Sheds who are based in York, and specialise in high-end buildings, including workshops, garden pods and potting sheds.  We have a number of Phoenix buildings at our show site, in addition to our own buildings.

Shed FAQs

Are the sheds and summerhouses made to order?

Yes, our buildings are made to order, although we do aim to carry a small selection of standard sizes in stock for those needing quick delivery.

How long does it take to receive my shed or summerhouse?

Please check our delivery information page for our current lead times.  Once we reach your order in the workshop queue, we contact you before we start making it, to ensure that you are ready to take delivery.

What are the requirements for a base?

It is very important that you have a solid and level base for a shed to be erected on.  If the base is uneven, or not perfectly level, it means we are unable to assemble your shed to be perfectly square.  Manipulating the shed to get it assembled would likely lead to problems down the line such as the door dropping, splits, cracks, leaks and excessive water ingress.  If your ground is not level and you do not wish to go to the expense of groundworks, we can install a timber base at a cost of £3 per square foot.
